Electrophysiology Procedures

Electrophysiology procedures relate directly to the treatment and care of disorders of the conduction system in the heart. This conduction system controls the rate and rhythm of the heart. Cardiac Rhythm Management includes treatment for:

  • Bradycardia (slow heart rates)
  • Tachycardia (fast heart rates and irregular beats)
  • Treatments for heart failure

Examples of different arrhythmias include the following: palpitations (racing heart), fainting, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and ventricular arrhythmias. There are various types of therapy used to treat these arrhythmias. Treatments include: medications, pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, and ablation.
